Holiness is Possible.. Creating Holy Moments

Our Gospel reading for today
Gospel Lk 14:25-33
Great crowds were traveling with Jesus,
and he turned and addressed them,
“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters,
and even his own life,
he cannot be my disciple.
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me
cannot be my disciple.
Which of you wishing to construct a tower
does not first sit down and calculate the cost
to see if there is enough for its completion?
Otherwise, after laying the foundation
and finding himself unable to finish the work
the onlookers should laugh at him and say,
‘This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.’
Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down
and decide whether with ten thousand troops
he can successfully oppose another king
advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops?
But if not, while he is still far away,
he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms.
In the same way,
anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions
cannot be my disciple.”
and he turned and addressed them,
“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters,
and even his own life,
he cannot be my disciple.
Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me
cannot be my disciple.

good morning, change is good yet can be a pain sometimes. again ai apologize for the delay in getting the post up this morning. technology is good when it works.
ReplyDeleteFr Steve last night gave many example of reigniting our passion for the church tying this into take up your cross and follow me. he stated we are in a trying tome of the church yet the church has been persecuted before and has not only survived its thrived. Our DC reflection serves as such reminder. we need to do something. what will the something be.
I will continue with the posting even through the tech challenges.
Thank you for thisDavid=) if i could up vote you I would=)
DeleteJust like Matthew Kelly reminds us during D.C. give 100percent to our Lord.
ReplyDeleteFollow God first,we must be willing to sacrifice and the realization of be ready to accept the persecution and suffering as part of this path must be made known to us.
Few of us are are able to have that level of total commitment.
That is why a life time is needed to continue growing in our faith and moving towards God.
Our deacon prepared the homily last night and stated he believes 'hate" is a very strong term to use, after all Jesus preaches LOVE of all. However to get the message and serious nature across the word "hate" is used. He said Jesus was possibly trying to convey that no matter how we feel we must be able to detach from the imperfect obligation to others, including family and those closest to us,to accept the perfect nature of our Lord and God.
This makes sense, but I know as much as I think I understand this, I can not yet implement this fully. =(
Love the words from Father Mike Schmitz today in D.C. reflection, that seems to be more where I am at this time. His words give great encouragement today.
